The ambition of the project locates itself in proposing a cross-disciplinary integrative approach to knowledge production and media communication. It intends to construct a platform for juxtaposing different visions of cultural production which can help articulate the multiple modalities of power-knowledge relationship that made itself visible in the vast space of Indian Subcontinent during the turbulent period of gross civilizational reconfigurations that saw not only the coming of modernity to Asia but the rise of modern Euro-Asiatic world that established networks circulating cultural matter in mutually influential flows in both directions. The reconstruction of the connected histories of different patterns of intellectual patronage that had to regionally redefine themselves in face of the new economy of print shall highlight difference in modalities of cultural production which shaped the Indian career of print in the ways that produced regional print histories and print cultures and made possible parallel forms of modernity to emerge.
