Recent Trends of Nostalgia in Japanese Culture

zapraszamy

Zapraszamy w środę, 24 maja, o godz. 13:00 do sali 119 na wykład prof. Kantaro Ohashi pt. Recent Trends of Nostalgia in Japanese Culture.
Wykład odbędzie się w języku angielskim.

Abstrakt wykładu:
My presentation aims at analyzing aesthetic problem around the concept of nostalgia, which influences us in several cultural aspects.
The aim of this research project is to search for the source of its appealing power, by focusing on the aesthetico-political aspect of nostalgia. In my opinion, sense of nostalgia not only gives us a strong attachment to the past but also it has its gathering force, which is to say, mental mobilization. Nostalgia may have a power to collect people through organization and orientation of collected memory.
We prepare several steps to make clear the functions of nostalgia. First, we begin from general analyses of the concept of nostalgia. Secondly, we pose this concept as essential to modern movement, through interpretation of Adorno and Horkheimer's Dialect of Enlightenment. Thirdly, we also refer to analyses of nostalgia by French philosopher and philologist Barbara Cassin, who tries to evaluate utility of this notion through the reading of Hanna Arendt.
After these theoretical considerations, we try to explain some nostalgic movements, seen both in cultural products and in political aspects, especially in Japan.
