We invite you to join our new short-term course “Ancient Egypt: religion and written culture as semantic patterns in an ancient civilization” by Visiting Professor Emanuele Ciampini
Course: "Ancient Egypt: religion and written culture as semantic patterns in an ancient civilization" aims to provide the basic skills for an approach to the pharaonic Egypt. Two specific subjects will be faced during the course: 1) Religion as part of the pharaonic interpretation of the cosmos, with a focus in the role of the kingship as part organization of the reality and its main features: time and space. 2) Iconographical and written culture: a way for interpreting the world and create a canon in the communication.
The content of the course will be arranged as follows:
- Basic knowledge on the pharaonic Egypt: the country, the history and its sources.
- The discovery of the pharaonic antiquities: from the Late Antiquity to the birth of the Egyptology.
- The history: periods and dinasties.
- Models for the interpretation of the world: religious patterns; sources of the past and memory; the written culture.
- Ability in the use of the basi tools for the research.
- Development of the critical attitude to the ancient materials and their analysis.
Seminar, 7 ECTS, 60 hours.
