Imagination in Culture. Spirituality, Art, Literature

I. Trzcińska, A. Świerzowska (eds.), Imagination in Culture. Spirituality, Art, Literature [Wyobraźnia w kulturze. Duchowość, sztuka, literatura], Kraków: Wydział Humanistyczny Akademii Górniczo-Hutniczej, 2017.

Esoteric context marks an important field for the reflection on the imagination. Contrary to dominant belief, this niche aspect of creativity is not reserved only for eccentric weirdos. In western culture, esoterism provides us with hints and images that are important in the perspective of existential experiences and in the uncertainty of knowledge. The characteristic feature of these intuitions is its distinctively irrational feature. Thanks to this archaization, man can return to the experience of the world being a living whole, in which every element can find its meaning and fulfillment. At the same time, esoteric codes invite the recipient to an intellectual game in which there are no unambiguous solutions, but there are numerous quotations and associations that allow to build their own interpretation of the presented world, in which symbols known for a long time will acquire new content, define a new myth. The volume is a collection of papers exploring various contexts of esoteric imgaination in the field of art, literaure and in the realm of spirituality.
