Religions of the Celts

Religions of the Celts

Bożena Gierek, Religions of the Celts [Religie Celtów], Wydawnictwo WAM, Kraków 2013.

The book provides an insight into the religion of the Celts, including their mythology, but also shows how the organisation of Celtic societies (their law) influenced their beliefs. The author draws mainly on Irish tradition, but also refers to Welsh, Scottish, Breton and other continental sources.

The book consists of the following chapters: The mythological invasions in Ireland, The cult of the Father-God – chieftain, The cult of the Mother-Goddess, The Celtic hero, The Celtic calendar (The festival of Samain, The festival of Imbolc, The festival of Beltaine, The festival of Lugnasad), The Other World, Places of cult (Areas of water, Mountains/Hills, Magical circle: Viereckschanzen, Romano-Celtic temples, Celto-Ligurian temples, Irish places of cult), The cult of the head.

The opinion of Joseph F. Eska presented on pp. 264-265 refers to the discovery in Chamalières, not in Larzac. The author wishes to apologise for the error.
