Japanese Cinema in Polish Film Posters

Japanese Cinema in Polish Film Posters

Wioletta Laskowska-Smoczyńska, Japanese Cinema in Polish Film Posters [Kino japońskie w polskim plakacie filmowym], Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology, Krakow 2011.

This attractive book with fine graphic design is the first Polish study of Japanese cinematic art in the second half of the 20th century from the perspective of Polish film posters, an interesting collection of which is held by the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology. The works were created between 1951 and 1993, in the period of the greatest flourishing of both Japanese film and Polish graphic arts. They were shown in the exhibition Japanese Cinema in Polish Film Posters.
Interesting text contributions by outstanding specialists – Wioletta Laskowska-Smoczyńska, Japanese studies scholar; Magdalena Czubińska, historian of art; and  Piotr Kletowski, film studies scholar – induct the reader into the intriguing worlds of poster art and film. They also encourage intercultural dialogue, studying two fascinating disciplines which connected the cultures of our countries in a surprising way. This dialogue is complemented by Rafał Sosin's graphic design.
