Logos, Myth and Ratio. On Some Chosen Concepts of Rationality in 15th- 17th European Thought

Logos, Myth and Ratio. On Some Chosen Concepts of Rationality in 15th- 17th European Thought

Izabela Trzcińska, Logos, Myth and Ratio. On Some   Chosen Concepts of Rationality in 15th- 17th European Thought [Logos, mit i ratio. Wybrane koncepcje racjonalności od XV do XVII wieku], Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, Krakow 2011.

This monograph presents the birth of ratio in the Age of the Renaissance. Even perfunctory analysis of both the background and the origins of this issue indubitably shows that it was the myth that played a particularly important and vital role in the formation process of the very concept of rationality. However, one may find it a very difficult, arduous task to reconstruct all those concepts and ideas in an objective and accurate manner as the current epistemological and ontological categories do not correspond to the unique and passionate epoch of the European culture. Not only does rationality not fall within the standards of the present definitions but it also stands in opposition, in contrast with the medieval tradition.
