Deliver Us from Evil... Apotropaic Customs and Objects in the Civilisations of the World

On May 5-7th 2017 the Witkowski Collegium (Cracow) has hosted the 2nd Demonological Conference Deliver Us from Evil… Apotropaic Customs and Objects in the Civilisations of the World organised by the Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilisations and the affiliated Students’ Research Group of Comparative Studies of Civilisations. This is the second event of the cycle of conferences aiming at analysing the selected aspects of demonology with the first edition taking place in May 2015. The subject of the present year symposium has drawn the representatives of various academic disciplines, what was reflected in the schedule divided into panels devoted to particular culture circles (inter alia Near East, Far East and Mesoamerica), selected religious traditions (inter alia Christianity and pre-Christian beliefs) and specific topics (inter alia contemporary superstitions and witchcraft throughout ages). The event had international nature and gathered academicians as well as graduate and post-graduate students affiliated at the universities in Poland, Germany, Turkey, Netherlands, Great Britain and other countries. Thanks to it the schedule accommodated English-speaking sessions every day. Due to the conference theme and the strong diversification of academic background of the presenters, the proceedings led to lively and inspirational discussions. The material result of the event will be the post-conference tome published in the series of Maska monographs.
