Full professor at the Institute of Comparative Studies of Civilisations, Jagiellonian University. From 2009 to 2014, he served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to India, with accreditation to Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. He was a visiting professor at the University of Rochester (New York) in 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the journal "Muslim Perspectives," published by the Muslim Institute based in Islamabad.

Professor Kłodkowski is a graduate of the Jagiellonian University and of the Kraków University of Economics (MBA). He also studied at the National Institute of Modern Languages in Islamabad (Pakistan), University College Cork (Tempus Scholarship, Ireland), and the University of Cambridge (postdoctoral Wasilewski Scholarship).

Recipient of the following awards: the Beata Pawlak Prize (Stefan Batory Foundation) in 2004 for the series of literary reportages, “Doskonały smak Orientu” ("The Exquisite Taste of the Orient"); the Znak Hestia (Fr. Józef Tischner) Prize in 2006 for the book “O pęknięciu wewnątrz cywilizacji” (“On the Intra Civilizational Rift”); and the Jan Długosz Prize in 2025 for the book “Azjatycka Wielka Gra” (“The Asian Great Game: India and South Asia in the Struggle for Regional and Global Dominance in the 20th and 21st Centuries”).

  • Awarded a project grant under "Horizon 2020" in 2021: DigiPatch. Moving from Networked to Patchworked Society, the main objective of which is to understand how the use of digital media, interacting with the psychology of network users (motivations, cognitive biases, and processes of social influence) and the cultural and religious context (norms and values), fosters the creation of virtual identities and examines the extent to which these processes pose a risk to social cohesion in both digital and analog environments, by reducing society's ability to create shared values, norms, principles, and goals. Project DigiPatch is supported by NCN Poland (2021/03/Y/ HS6/00251), FORTE Sweden, DLR-PT Germany, AEI Spain, UKRI Economy and Social Research Council and UKRI Art and Humanities Research Council UK, under CHANSE ERA- -NET Co-fund programme, which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, under Grant Agreement no 101004509.

Other achievements

  • 2014-2024 Collaboration with the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM, Warsaw). Participation in the debate associated with the promotion of the book "Asian Great Game": Asian Great Game - Consequences of Regional Rivalry for the USA and Europe, PISM, Warsaw, 06.11.2024. Participation in the debate "The Importance of India for Poland's Interests from a Geostrategic Perspective," PISM, Warsaw, 16.05.2024. Preparation of materials for a publication in English on Polish-Indian bilateral relations. The entire work was published by PISM and the Indian counterpart, the Indian Council of World Affairs, New Delhi, in 2014.
  • 2017-2020 Participation in the EU project "The Place of V-4 Countries in Europe and Japan" co-financed by the University of Kobe, which concerns Central Europe, especially the migration policy of the Visegrad Group. In October 2018, at the invitation of the University of Kobe, a presentation in Brussels titled "Security Issues in South Asia" as part of the joint EU-Japan project, with Vrije Universiteit Brussels as the European partner.
  • 2015-2017 Preparation and delivery of lectures and workshops for high-ranking officers of NATO member states and the Partnership for Peace program, as well as members of the diplomatic corps engaged in defense topics within the North Atlantic Alliance. The entire program was organized by the NATO Defense College (NDC) in Rome, the primary academic institution of the North Atlantic Alliance, founded by Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. The lectures and workshops focused on security threats in South Asia, India-China relations, and the potential for cooperation between the Republic of India and the North Atlantic Alliance.

Hobbies

  • Culinary geography (including active participation in preparing dishes from selected Asian countries). Also specializes in his own interpretation of chilli con carne. A connoisseur of selected coffee varieties. 
  • Table tennis (team vice champion of Ireland; university competitions “U.L. Intervarsities” in 1994). Still active in sport; regularly plays with his son, Wojciech.
  • Loves dogs and cats. Together with his wife, Jolanta, he cares for their dog, Bobby (known as Bobek), born in India, and a Polish cat, “Kota”. Additionally, on weekends he looks after his daughter Joanna’s cats, Ziuta and Franek.
