Dr Jarosław Zapart

Indologist, buddhologist. M.A. in Indian studies (Hindi literature) (Jagiellonian University, Institute of Oriental Studies, 2007), Ph.D. in Buddhist studies (Jagiellonian University, Institute of Philosophy, 2015). In IPSC since 2011. Teaching assistant, 2015–18; assistant professor since 2018.

 

Academic interests

  • thought, history, and literature of North-Indian Sants;
  • bhakti traditions;
  • theory and history of yoga;
  • Hinduism in digital media;
  • Indian Mahāyāna Buddhism, especially the tradition of tathāgatagarbha (buddha nature) scriptures;
  • Buddhist traditions and techniques of cultivating the mind.

  • 2026–ongoing, Meditation Practices in Contemporary Sant Traditions of Northern India, National Science Centre (NCN), Miniatura 10.
  • 2018–23, co-investigator in the project led by prof. Cezary Galewicz: Cultures of Patronage: script, print and performance in the making of regional and imperial spaces of communication and knowledge circulation across India 1674–1890 (National Science Centre [NCN]).
  • 2016–2017 – Doctrine and Practices of Esoteric North-Indian Sants in 18-19th Century. Research project funded by the Faculty of Philosophy, Jagiellonian University.
